Most all of our panels are
lighted panels manufactured in conformance with SAE-AS7788, but we can build to any customer specification. Under mil-7788
there are several panel types, the most common of these today are types 4, 5,
6, and 7.
Type IV (4) panels are one piece panels that have incandecent lamps imbedded within and operate at 5 or 28 volts.
Type V (5) has a panel with a removable circuit board. Incandecent lamps are then soldered to the circuit board. These also operate at 5 or 28 volts.
Type VI (6) are electro luminescent (EL) panels. These have an EL lamp embbeded within the panel. Some EL panels use a potentiometer to very the brightness of the lighting. EL panels operate at 115V.
Type VII (7) uses LEDS on a removable circuit board, and operate at 5 or 28 volts.
Under mil-7788 panel types are further broken down into classes:
Class 1 - Front face of panel is black.
Class 2 - Front face of panel is grey.
Panel lighting is designated using a letter in combination with the class:
R = red panel lighting
W = White panel lighting
BW = blue white lighting (USAF)
NVIS = NVIS green
Using this system a Type V (5) Class 1-R panel would be a removable circuit board panel with a black face and red lighting.
*In addition to mil-spec panels, panels can also be built directly to a customer specs from drawings or from supplied sample parts.
